Cafe Racer Festival, Montlhery Aerodrome, Paris. June 2018
When we discovered that there was a Cafe Racer Festival near paris, we didn't need to think too much about visiting. We were tempted to exhibit as well but for our first visit , we thought we'd go check it out first. And what a blast we had !
As we approached the aerodrome, bikes began to increase in number on the road, a sure sign that a bike meet of some sort is nearby. As we entered the parking area it dawned on us that we drove under the banking and that was a thrill in itself !
Linas-Montlhery circuit, built in 1924, is an interesting circuit of 2,500 metres with a semi - circular banking ( the Ring of Speed) ; 18% at its lowest and 117.4% at it's highest. And it is high, with a tilt of 52 degrees. If you ever get the chance to visit , the spectacular racing and the nerve of the riders could blow your mind!
The whole festival was incredibly laid back, well organised and had a French charm of beer, family and bikers. Racing continued throughout the day that we visited, as well as drag racing there were full circuit racing with ladies races included - and they did not hang about either.
The diverse, quality builds that we saw was inspiring and the sound was just ear poppingly great! We walked miles, visiting stand after stand and it was refreshing to see the Cafe Racer genre is really popular in France. We sat for a time in the stadium to watch the racing and our eyes popped out of our heads when we saw, not 1 but 2 CRK Triumphs blasting around the track. We have sold almost 200 of the kits and to see 2 in race mode was a thrill for sure.
Here's a great video by G FR and captures the feel of the weekend a treat !
And a fast pace Triumph official video
Here's Ian chatting to Bernard Sciboz of Switzerland with his Highly tuned Triumph and for those with keen eyes, a fantastic Carbon Fibre tank , some 22L capacity made as a one off. We will investigate further don't worry !
And here's Pascal Perthuis, from Yveslines France, just after racing around the circuit. we might have had a small beer to celebrate with him !
